Weeding
Weeding is a process in which the library collection is methodically analyzed for the validity, currency, and quality of the books. According to ALA, before the weeding process, a policy should be in place that specifies what guidelines are to be followed that will best serve your students, faculty, and community. For the Tennessee History Weed & Feed, the criteria for weeding were date of publication, physical condition of the book, and ability to get updated information on the same topic. Books were also weeded that were no longer important in the curriculum. |

Feeding
Collection sections must be "fed" when curriculum changes, when there are gaps in that section, or when weeding leaves sections bare. For the Tennessee History Weed & Feed, the criteria for feeding was to match materials to the current curriculum. |
